Kindergarten Curriculum |

|
The program in Kindergarten seeks to provide age-appropriate experiences that fully develop a student’s God-given potential in an atmosphere that promotes spiritual growth and a positive self-concept. The schedule features daily routines with structured large-group lessons. Small-group learning and free-choice activities provide for the development of students’ social interactions and promote cooperation. Students learn various concepts including those on the state standards. While planned activities cover all of the core curriculum areas, the students’ faith life, pre-reading/reading skills and a solid math foundation are the most prominent.
Religion The Voyages curriculum emphasizes Jesus’ love for each student. This focus incorporates God’s love for us as shown in His plan for our salvation. The Bible stories are enhanced through chapel worship, songs, puppets, books, and finger plays.
Reading/Language Development The Bob Jones program is an activity-based curriculum that nurtures emergent literacy, phonics skills, and handwriting. Social Studies and Science activities are incorporated into the various reading lessons.
Phonics The Reading Readiness Program is used along with the Bob Jones Curriculum. Phonemic awareness is developed through letter/sound identification activities, rhyming, blending, and segmenting. Oral language skills are also fostered.
Mathematics The Bob Jones Curriculum uses hands-on manipulatives to teach the key concepts of numeration, measurement, shapes, addition, subtraction, estimating, graphing, time, money, and data organization.
Computers Students reinforce basic math and reading skills using a variety of educational software, such as Jump Start Kindergarten, Earobics, and DK’s Reading and Counting programs.
Music, PE, Art, Field Trips These areas of learning promote the child’s awareness of cultural and aesthetic value in the fine arts, as well as development of fine and gross motor skills.
Open Houses, Parent/Teacher conferences, volunteer opportunities, and monthly newsletters develop a cooperative link between home and classroom. |
