3rd—5th Grade Curriculum |

|
The third through fifth grades are joined in a multi-level classroom, which focuses on God’s Word. We believe that all children have special spiritual gifts that equip them to be disciples of all nations. Our Bible-based curriculum keeps God’s Word available throughout the day and our classroom displays a positive and encouraging environment.
Religion Students have at least one memory verse per week, learn the books of the Bible, the Lord’s Prayer, and the Apostle’s Creed. Students continue to pray using the ACTS format, which is the acronym for adoration, confession, thanksgiving, and supplication. We use the Concordia Voyages series with workbooks to study, which teaches students to learn how to apply Biblical principles to real life situations.
Reading The Curriculum includes the Bob Jones Reading Series, miscellaneous supplementals, and three novels. Students continue to use phonics and are required to take the Kansas Computerized Assessment in the spring. Fourth graders will experience several opportunities to write a variety of poetry. Fifth graders continue to strive to read aloud with clarity and fluency.
English Students use Bob Jones Curriculum and the Six-Trait Writing to learn grammar and writing.
Math Students use the QIVPES method for problem solving most days of the week. The Bob Jones math series provides the base of our curriculum and is supplemented with problem solving books and manipulatives. Students are required to do timed tests for multiplication tables to the twelves.
Social Studies Students learn the basics from the Kansas Standards and do some projects to go beyond. The students will pick a person from the curriculum to do a wax museum. Students will receive Scholastic Weekly Readers.
Science The Bob Jones Curriculum maintains Christian beliefs and attitudes about science. Students will do experiments to learn the scientific process and create a science fair project at the end of the year. Students will also receive Scholastic Science Spin.
Computers Students use computers to keyboard, use basics computer skills, use Microsoft Word and Works, Microsoft Excel, and to do Internet research skills to create final drafts and publish their classroom projects.
